Liberation Through Handwriting Change, Fairfax, CA.
10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. This class is the zazen of handwriting. A few minutes a day of handwriting practice incorporating specific changes can redo your mental circuitry. We limit our life by acting on out-of-date mental habits, which are revealed in our handwriting (no surprise there, right?) as well as everywhere else (posture certainly). By changing the way we write, we can let the enlightenment, which is implicit in our life, unfold. If you work on your handwriting—by making new connections between your consciousness and your hand-- you will not be able to stick to your stuck ways of doing things. Guaranteed! Bring one or more pens. I’ll supply the paper. Of course a warning is in order -- if you do not stick to your stuck ways, there is no telling what might happen next. Cost: $40. Email Edward to register.

    Zen and Cooking, Fairfax, CA.
2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., followed by dinner. Please note that this will be a small class limited to five people. I am most interested in teaching cooking and zen, so I ask that participants be willing to talk less and listen and taste more! That is, to give their attention to food and the activities of cooking rather than allowing their awareness to wander off into conversations with other participants. Please keep this in mind if you wish to sign up for this class. Thank you!

Cooking (and life) can be more than just following recipes. Zen Master Tenkei advised, “see with your eyes, smell with your nose, taste with your tongue…nothing in the universe is hidden. What else would you have me say?” Beyond rote and chore –doing what you’ve been told—is the freedom to realize the way to cook, letting the ingredients come forward to awaken and nourish, letting yourself come alive to cook. Food is mystery, source, and sustenance. Cooking is meeting the heart of the matter in meeting the ingredients, oneself and others.

If you want some fabulous recipes, go get a fabulous cookbook. This class will offer structured tastings, and include the cultivation of wholesome kitchen practices, such as washing and wringing out sponges! This along with the basics: washing, cleaning, cutting skills—giving your attention to the food and how you can usefully interact with it.

Depending on the level of interest and attention, we will cover more or less material, skills, techniques, observations. I am ready to do my part—to offer you as much as I can. Class will be followed by dinner. Cost of ingredients is included in the class fee. If you want to have wine with dinner, please plan to bring it (and wait until dinnertime to drink it). Cost: $85. Email Edward to register.

Mindfulness Touch: Experiencing Connection, Fairfax, CA.
10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Practicing touch we will experience big mind or boundless non-duality —connection between two people. Most touch, as most moments of consciousness, embodies directives and judgments, expressed as, “Go over there.” or “Come over here;” “Calm down,” “Straighten up,” or “Love me.”

We will learn to touch with mindfulness—receiving sensation rather than dispensing directives—and connect with what is. In the course of this we will discover experientially how helping, fixing, diagnosing, correcting (though at times useful and important) all get in the way of true connection through touch.

In the end we will touch what is Divine in one another. (In case you have concerns –this is a course about conscious touch: participants remain fully dressed and are invited to voice any concerns about inappropriate touching or touch that is disconcerting.)

With an exception or two, this course most often provides participants with an awesome experience. Though not necessarily a popular course (as is cooking), the actual experience is profound: important for relationship, connection, consciousness studies, meditation, hands-on healing. Cost: $40. Email Edward to register.
